The Institute of Applied Technology’s schools engagement program is reshaping perceptions of VET. Hundreds of students have participated in our programs, with 88% recognising VET as a pathway into Construction and Digital careers, 69% considering further study, and 100% teacher satisfaction across participating schools..

The world of work is changing rapidly, with technology and automation reshaping industries, 65% of today’s students will work in jobs that don’t yet exist. As industries continue to evolve, both soft and technical skills are becoming essential for success.

To prepare students for tomorrow’s careers, our workshops and excursions are tailored to meet them where they’re at, with targeted programs designed to match their development stages and learning needs.

Primary Explore

Ignite curiosity about the Construction and Digital sectors through engaging, hands-on activities. Primary Explore gives students a positive and inspiring first experience of the Institute of Applied Technology, planting the seeds for future possibilities.

Secondary Discover

Introduce students to vocational education and training (VET) and emerging career pathways. Secondary Discover builds awareness of the Construction and Digital sectors while encouraging deeper interest and engagement.

Secondary Futures

Immerse students in the world of vocational education. Secondary Futures showcases Institute of Applied Technology and TAFE NSW’s future-focused facilities, deepening students’ understanding of VET and inspiring them to consider careers in Construction and Digital.

Professional Development School Teachers

Microcredential classes where school teachers complete their NESA approved Microcredential with a qualified trainer.

Cyber Phishing Phase 1 Stages 5 & 6 (Years 9 - 12)	Phase 1 – Attack: Students step into the attacker’s role, crafting a mock phishing scam to uncover how cyber criminals deceive victims. Through hands-on exploration of real-world tactics, students gain critical insight into social engineering, digital vulnerabilities, and the importance of vigilance in protecting against cyber threats. Cyber Phishing Phase 2 Stages 5 & 6 (Years 9 - 12)	Phase 2 – Defence: Students flip perspectives to become defenders, learning how to detect, prevent, and respond to phishing attacks. Through interactive practice, they gain practical strategies for spotting suspicious messages, safeguarding personal data, and building resilience against cyber threats, strengthening their confidence in staying safe online. AI – Interactive Workshop Stages 5 & 6 (Years 9 - 12)	Explore the world of AI in one action packed workshop! Students learn effective Copilot prompting, see how AI shapes modern robotics, and dive into the ethics of responsible AI use. AI Gaming – Tech Tempest Stages 5 & 6 (Years 9 - 12)	Tech Tempest immerses students in AI-driven teamwork, exploring technology trends, ethics, and industry challenges. They design digital banking services, cross-collaborate with teams, and balance risks, gaining insight into AI’s limits and human skills in innovation. The simulation equips students with future-ready skills for navigating the digital workplace. Cybersecurity – CTF Phase 1 Stages 5 & 6 (Years 9 - 12)	Capture the Flag (CTF) Program: Students tackle themed cybersecurity challenges across networking, Linux, cryptography, OSINT, and physical security. Guided by experts, they explore real tools and environments, develop investigative problemsolving skills, and gain handson exposure to the digital threats and opportunities shaping cybersecurity careers in an engaging session. Digital School Incursion Stages 3-6 (Years 4 - 12)	Bring IAT’s digital programs directly to your school with a tailored incursion experience. Choose from Sphero Robots coding challenges (Years 4-8), a Gen AI Start-Up Workshop where students design and pitch an AI-powered business idea (Years 10-12), or a Cyber Security incursion where students explore real-world threats and learn to protect organisations like a real analyst (Years 9-12). Try-A-Trade Electrotechnology Stages 5 & 6 (Years 9 - 12)	Interested in a sustainable tech career? Try Electrotechnology for a day. Try-A-Trade Digital Construction Stages 5 & 6 (Years 9 - 12)	Discover Digital Construction through this Try-a-Trade experience focused on REVIT and modern building technology. Students learn how digital tools are used across the construction industry through a career talk, followed by practical REVIT activities that demonstrate how design, planning, and technology come together on real construction projects. Construction School Incursion Stages 3-6 (Years 4 - 12)	Bring hands-on construction and design thinking to your classroom with IAT’s Construction incursion programs. Students can take on the Lego Bridge Building challenge as they plan, budget and engineer a bridge that meets real design criteria (Years 4-8) or step into the world of digital design with Tinkercad, building 3D house models using the same tools as architects and construction designers (Years 4-10).
